Gangmenqiong Gr
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Gangmenqiong Mt. near Selong Village, 31 km north of Mt. Xixabangma, Nyalam, Tibet. It was named by She Yafeng and Liu Tungsheng in 1964.
Lithology and Thickness
Claystone and Sandstone. Composed of dark-gray to dark green-gray slate and shale interbedded with light yellow to white moderately thick-bedded quartzose sandstone, intercalated with pebbled sandstone, gray-white claystone and yellow-green siltstone. Exposed thickness 600 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Disconformable contact is inferred with the Shisha Pangma Gr (pre-Carboniferous) in type section; but next older unit in this region is the Naxing Fm (mid-Carboniferous)
Upper contact
Uncertain: Top is not exposed. Implied by Permian column in this region that next younger unit is the glacial till of the Jilong Fm

The limestone in the lower part yields Brachiopods Syringothyris lydekkeria, Punctospirifer middlemissi, Dialasma lidarensis, Linoproductus sp., Rotaia dowhatensis and Schizophoria resupinata; Bryozoans Fenestella sp. and Polypora sp.; Bivalve Aviculopecten sp.; corals Cryptophyllum sp. and Aaphrentoides sp.
